Challenges

The client struggled with unintuitively categorized knowledge within the organization, which prolonged the information retrieval path for doctors and medical students. The specificity of medical knowledge management, however, placed uncompromising demands on AI technology:

  • Every generated response must include a source citation mechanism – the accuracy of information directly translates into health and clinical decisions.
  • Rigorous protection of intellectual property – any risk of content leakage to public LLM models is excluded.
  • A vast amount of concepts, Latin nomenclature, and complex dependencies require generating responses in natural language.
  • Transforming a static knowledge archive (e-books, PDFs, articles) into an interactive knowledge platform with an assistant capable of extracting key clinical guidelines in seconds.

Solution

In response to the client’s needs, platform components were developed to provide:

  • An intelligent semantic search engine, dedicated to the medical domain and diverse source file formats, serving as the search engine for the medical assistant in a RAG architecture.
  • A system for retrieving and archiving online knowledge sources, including their automatic download and version checking to supplement the knowledge base with additional and current sources.
